Taking Back the Giving Season!

The giving season is officially here! Unfortunately, it’s usually met with stress and worry. “What am I going to get the kids for Christmas?” or “I can’t believe Thanksgiving is only 3 weeks away!” (Translation: The in-laws are coming in 3 weeks, we better deep clean the house) or my personal favorite, “I haven’t even THOUGHT about the Black Friday sales yet!”

Don’t worry; we ALL have these same thoughts. It really does seem that every year, the “giving season” is making a bold transition into the “stressful season”. This year, we want to challenge you to change that. We know that there will always be stress, worries, and the usual hustle and bustle the day before Thanksgiving to fix the last batch of pumpkin pie mix or to grab that one can of cranberry sauce because you forgot it’s Grandma’s favorite.

So here is the challenge: trade one or two of those stressful hours this holiday season and spend them truly “giving back”. Let’s take back the real meaning of the giving season! I guarantee that there’s a volunteer project just whvgaiting for you and your family this season; one that fits perfectly for the lessons you are working to teach your family every single day. Life is hard and not always flexible, so let the Holiday Volunteer Guide help you find that perfect volunteer fit for you this giving season.

You may be thinking, “Oh, I don’t have the time to pick a volunteer project, schedule it, and still get everything else done.” After all, there are only 24 hours in a day (and some days I question that fact). No problem! Here are some tips on picking the perfect volunteer project for you. It’s easy as, well…pie!

  1. Does your family prefer working with people directly, or do you think something like hanging Christmas decorations is more your style? We have the perfect opportunity for that, here.
  2. Would you prefer working with children or adults? Everyone needs a little cheer this holiday season!
  3. Lastly, and honestly most importantly, what makes you feel good? Your time is valuable, so spend it doing something that makes you say, “That was an afternoon well spent”.

If volunteering just seems like it might be a little too much for your busy schedule this holiday season, there are ALWAYS other ways to give back, like #GivingTuesday!Save-the-date-blue
