We all love finding new holidays to celebrate. November used to just be home to Thanksgiving, and then we began observing Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Since 2012, the newest November/December “holiday” has been sweeping the world – #GivingTuesday. This one day giving event offers community members, donors, and volunteers an easy way to give!

What is #GivingTuesday?
#GivingTuesday is a day dedicated to giving around the globe. #GivingTuesday is observed on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving as a way to kick off the charitable season that revolves around the holidays and end-of-year giving. This year, #GivingTuesday will take place on December 1st.

Where did #GivingTuesday come from?
#GivingTuesday was created by 92nd Street Y, a cultural center in New York City, in order to bring people together around the values of service and giving back.

Who can participate?
Anyone! Everyone! Donations can be made on our website here#Give

How can you give?
Our goal for this year’s #GivingTuesday is to raise $5,000 to help build a pathway out of poverty for children in Northwest Arkansas. There are a few different ways you can celebrate this day of giving with us:

  1. Participate in social media contests throughout November using the hashtag #GiveUnitedNWA.
  2. Make a donation online here.
  3. Sign up for a volunteer project through our Holiday Volunteer Guide (you can do this as an individual, family, or team).
  4. Get your friends and family involved!

Keep your eyes open for contests on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram throughout November to help us get the word out about #GivingTuesday, and mark your calendars for December 1, 2015!
