Inspiring Us This Week: The Boys and Girls Club of Western Benton County-Youth Development Program

Our partner agencies are always there to assist our community with whatever life throws your way. This week we are inspired by the Boys and Girls Club of Western Benton County and the impact that their Youth Development Program had on this family of 5 who found themselves in the middle of an impossible situation.

“A family with three children ages 15, 13, and 7 new to the Boy & Girls Club attended the summer program for the first three week session. The Unit Director noticed that these three children were not attending the second session and contacted their mother. She came down to the Club and explained that her husband had broken his back and was unable to work. Their only source of income was his disability check and they were unable to pay for the second five week session at the Club. When the Unit Director explained that these three children could attend the second five week session at a heavily discounted rate, the mother broke down in tears. She expressed her gratitude and explained how a burden had been lifted off of her; and now she could focus on the care of her husband for the next five weeks knowing that her children were safe and being cared for. The 15 year old boy earned the title of ‘Youth of the Month’ and all three children embraced the concept of giving back to their Boys & Girls Club.”

The Boys and Girls Club of Western Benton County serves around 2,400 children yearly in the Western Benton Co. area. This past summer, the Club was able to host a free summer program for 237 in Decatur and Gravette kids that may have had nowhere else to go in the summer.
