Each week, we’d like to take time to do a #FeatureFriday on an organization that is doing big things for child poverty in our community. We at the United Way of NWA are fortunate to have many, many organizations that we’re proud to come alongside and make a difference on a daily basis, impacting children in our own backyard.
First up, we’d like to feature an organization that was a recipient of this year’s First Step Funding under the Children Living In Poverty initiate (CLIP), Apple Seeds Inc. The specific program that received the CLIP funding was their Food Ambassador Training Camp.
The Food Ambassador Training Camp will train selected children to take a leadership role in their school as a trained ambassador to promote healthy food choices and to support the school garden for all the students of the school. These students will attend focus group meetings at their school, attend a one week training camp, and return to their schools empowered to make a change with the support of their school garden/food committee.
