Call to Volunteers: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance

Learn to prepare taxes and make a difference at the same time.

In partnership with CARE Community Tax Center, United Way’s Free Tax Service Initiative is designed to help hardworking families in the NWA area who earn $62,000 or less annually with free tax preparation and financial education services.  These services save hard-working individuals and families an average of $200+ that they would otherwise have to pay to have their taxes prepared.  In addition, each tax preparer is screened for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which could mean even more money in the pockets of individuals and families in NWA. Former President Ronald Reagan called EITC one of the “best antipoverty, pro-family, best job creation measures to come out of Congress”. That is why United Way of NWA educates the community about the benefits of EITC and works to ensure that every individual or family who qualifies is claiming the credit.

United Way of Northwest Arkansas and CARE Community Center are looking for volunteers to help run the 2016 free tax sites. One Saturday spent volunteering can return $5,000 to hardworking families. No accounting or finance experience is necessary and training is flexible and free. A variety of volunteer positions also available including client greeter, interpreter, intake and interviewer/client facilitator, and tax preparer.

The service is a vital part of our goal to impact Northwest Arkansas poverty and improve local income and family financial stability—and can only be possible with the help of volunteers! To learn more about the VITA program, job descriptions and applying to volunteer, visit our website!
